Rollpark requires regular maintenance just as asphalt does. As the selected product reaches the end of its lifecycle, it can be repaired or sprayed with a special patent-pending solution that can extend the life of the product, much like asphalt can be “seal-coated” to extend its life.

Regular maintenance includes re-seaming any loose seams, replacing worn sections, or, as mentioned, adding a surface hardener (a spray) to preserve dimensional stability.

For aesthetic purposes, it is also preferred that the parking lot be kept free of trash and leaves.

Rollpark has been tested over the course of 16 years both in laboratory and in field. The famed geotextile expert Ian Peggs (among others) helped develop the product and its specifications. Laboratory testing has been conducted on its permeability rates, UV resistance, tear strength, filtering of harmful chemicals etc.

Rollpark is currently developing an impervious product that has an extremely low cost for occasions when permeability is undesirable.

It depends on the kind of permit issued (if any) for the parking lot. Some cities have a high threshold for something to count as pervious that Rollpark does not readily meet. In such cases, a modest drainage channel can be established that is still less costly than what’d be required for asphalt.

The greatest challenge for a Rollpark lot is ensuring the subgrade remains stable. By allowing groundwater penetration, the risk of subgrade movement increases, so it is vitally important that the aggregates selected for a long-term installation lock well and ensure fast drainage.

Rollpark offers multiple products with some customizable options to increase durability and thus the period that it can last, so it varies. Rollpark-30, for example, is designed to last for closer to 5-7 years, and we are currently working on a new product that is expected to last for closer to 10 years.
